JUMBO Seafood Unveiled New Outlet at Ion Orchard with Exclusive Dishes and Dim Sum Offerings

Mention delicious live seafood prepared in distinctive Singapore style, the first name that comes to my mind is JUMBO Seafood, which is the flagship brand under the JUMBO Group, including its stable of different dining concepts, namely JPOT, JCafe, Chui Huay Lim Teochew Cuisine, Ng Ah Sio Bak Kut Teh and Singapore Seafood Republic.

With six restaurants across Singapore and several overseas outlets in China, Taiwan, Vietnam and Thailand, the well-established JUMBO Seafood brand has just opened its seventh and newest outlet at Ion Orchard. This is the JUMBO Group‘s first seafood outlet opening in ten years and is also its first time settled ideally in a shopping mall space.

The new JUMBO Seafood outlet is located on the level 4 of Ion Orchard, which took over the space formerly occupied by Imperial Treasure. The 5,400 sq ft space underwent a makeover to more of a polished look to match the elegant interiors of the shopping mall.

The brand aims to attract both shoppers and corporate customers in the Orchard location, it has introduced a more sophisticated menu with exclusive items available only at the new outlet. Guests can enjoy dim sum lunch on weekdays from 11.30am to 3.30pm and on weekend and public holiday for high tea between 2.30pm to 5.30pm.

Geoduck Clam Blanched in Superior Stock

Price: $18.80 per 100 gram (JUMBO Seafood Signature)

A satisfying way to enjoy the Pacific delicacy Geoduck Clam is to eat it raw in sashimi style, or blanch it in a tasty superior stock like the one served at JUMBO Seafood.

The live geoduck is thinly sliced and placed on a bed of ice to be savoured in its purest natural form — notably sweet with a sea-fresh flavour and crunchy texture, it is commonly eaten with a dip of soya sauce and wasabi, or none.

There are other options of eating geoduck such as stir-fried and sautéed, but I personally prefer it blanched in a light superior stock — the flavours become extraordinary when cooked.

Pan Fried JUMBO Chilli Crab Buns / Baked JUMBO Chilli Crab Puffs

Price: $8.80 per dim sum serving (Exclusive at Ion Orchard)

Fans of the award-winning Chilli Crab can now enjoy the signature heritage dish, without getting their hands dirty with these newly created items on the dim sum menu.

Comes in baked and pan-fried versions, the plates of palate-pleasing, bite-size morsels are filled with full fiery flavours of JUMBO Seafood‘s most quintessential chilli crab.

Chilli Crab Meat Sauce with Sliced-Fried Mantou

Price: $16.80 per dim sum serving (Exclusive at Ion Orchard)

Those on a petite diet, but don’t want to miss out JUMBO Seafood‘s moreish chilli crab, can indulge in the downsize dish of Chilli crab meat sauce with sliced-fried mantou. These little treats will surely captivate the palates of both young and young-at-heart.

Crispy Fried Cod Fish with Nyonya Sauce

Price: $22 per portion (Exclusive at Ion Orchard)

A Nyonya twist adds zing to the dish of cod fish. Chef’s Nyonya-inspired sauce is prepared with a variety of spices — wonderfully flavorsome, served with a beautiful golden crust cod fillet and juicy flesh inside.

Cod Fish ‘Otah’ in Coconut

Price: $16.80 per serving (Exclusive at Ion Orchard)

Another cod fish dish and exclusive item at the Orchard outlet — this seafood take on the classic otah features a blend of cod fish meat with coconut milk, herbs and spices served in coconut shell. There’s a distinct nutty sweetness in the otah, but it was too coconutty and lacks the aromatics and spices of what otah should be.

Cheese Baked Mentaiko King Prawn

Price: $16 per serving (JUMBO Seafood Signature)

One of JUMBO Seafood‘s signatures, an enticing Cheese baked mentaiko king prawn. A tad expensive for a single prawn, but it was tasty and succulent, always a hit among regular customers.

Homemade Beancurd and Mixed Seafood Braised with Abalone Sauce

Price: XS – $14, S – $18, M – $27, L – $36 (Exclusive at Ion Orchard)

It is a clever way to introduce smaller size portions instead of full-sized for every dish and a meal. All the dishes (except for by weight and per portion) at JUMBO Seafood are available in XS (slang term for extra small) serving, including this new exclusive Homemade beancurd and mixed seafood in abalone sauce.

It’s a healthy and balanced homely dish of delicious textured beancurd and diced seafood braised in thick abalone sauce — best accompanied with a hearty bowl of fluffy steamed rice.

Chinese Chives Stir Fried with Minced Garlic

Price: XS – $11, S – $14, M – $21, L – $28

The stir fry of Chinese chives and minced garlic makes a good addition to a seafood-heavy meal, but also a little heavy on the wallet. A poultry or another seafood dish probably sounds like something I’d order than this humble plate of greens.

King Prawn and Fragrant Rice in Rich Seafood Broth

Price: $38 per portion (Exclusive at Ion Orchard)

Rice is a major staple in the Asian diet. There are many types of grains and different ways to cook the familiar staple, but Poached Rice (Pao Fan 泡飯) is less common here and not many Chinese restaurants in Singapore offer this dish on their menu.

At Jumbo Seafood, you can find two choices of the decadent one-pot dish — Live Boston Lobster with Fragrant in Rich Seafood Broth ($78) and also the King Prawn version, at about half the price ($38).

King Prawn and Fragrant Rice in Rich Seafood Broth

The King Prawn and Fragrant Rice in Rich Seafood Broth comes in only one size portion and is good for sharing. The comforting hot pot boasts plump cooked rice soaked in a strong and flavourful crustacean broth with premium king prawns.

The addition of crispy rice grains imparted texture and subtle sweetness to the broth which completes the dish and remarkably satisfying.

Price: From $4.50 to $6.80

Desserts wise, they are the norm — with the likes of Chilled Mango Sago Pomelo, Chilled Lime Jelly with Mixed Fruits, Shaved Iced with Gula Melaka, Sweet Yam Paste with Gingko Nuts & Pumpkin, and Double Boiled Peach Resin served hot or chilled.

Durian fans will definitely opt for the Chilled Durian Pudding or Fried Durian. The restaurant also offers a Mixed Fresh Fruit Platter for sharing.
