If you’re in the North-East area (specifically Upper Serangoon Road), need a good caffeine fix and some food, do give this newcomer Amber Ember cafe a go. Opened in August 2018, this one-month old cafe serves up a mean cup of coffee, comforting all-day eats and desserts in a charming space dressed with splashes of dusty pink.
Located in a standalone commercial building on 730 Upper Serangoon Road, the cafe is within reasonable distance to NEX mall, Serangoon MRT and Kovan MRT. There is a bus stop (bus stop no. 63019) right in front of the building after Upper Serangoon Shopping Centre. If you’re driving, do take note that there isn’t a proper parking facility here, but you can always park at Upper Serangoon Shopping Center which is just a stone throw away.
The menu at Amber Ember cafe is small but thoughtfully curated, great for the indecisive. Choose from the humble selection of Jaffles – Truffle Shrooms ($11), K-Pork ($10), Pablo’s Beef ($10), PB Jelly ($8), Chocobanana ($8); Brunch items like granola ($7), carbonara ($14), and inventive items such as Fu Yong Eggs ($11) and Asian ‘Risotto’ ($10) may raise some eyebrows.
If you’re wondering what are Jaffles, they are the Aussie icon of toasties (sandwiches) created with the cast iron toaster.
Truffle Shrooms Jaffles ($11) – Sautee mushrooms with truffle oil, pickled shimeiji, cheddar cheese served with sweet potato mash.
All savoury Jaffles comes with a choice of sides – Shoestring fries, Purple Mash or Purple Cabbage & Apple Coleslaw.
Fu Yong Eggs ($11) – Chinese style omelette with mushrooms, vegemite glaze, fried spinach on sourdough.
Amber Ember is not just another new cafe. Good coffee and simple comfort food are at the core of what they do. I could spend the entire day here with a book in hand and get caffeinated.
Extra points for the Instagram-worthy decor and solitary table — easy on getting some tasks done alone or spending quality ‘me-time’ for a better you!
