Running out of ideas for your next weekend brunch? Well now you have another option! The Chop House has recently launched their weekend brunch menu, featuring popular dishes from their usual ala carte menu. This means you can have their specialty meats and the typical breakfast fares for brunch!
Located on level one overlooking the boardwalk to Sentosa, this place is perfect for a relaxing meal. Sit outside if you like alfresco dining, or head indoors to escape the heat. The weekend brunch, available from 11am to 4pm, also has the option of a 2-hour free-flow wine and Paulaner Beer with a top-up of $48! Worth it, I say!
If you’re more into cocktails, try the Vanilla Sky ($18++). Made up of Absolut vanilla, honey, cherry bitters, passionfruit and fresh tahitian lime, this was sweet and tangy at the same time, because of the good balance between the honey, cherry and passionfruit. A non-alcoholic drink we tried was the Cool Mint ($10++). Definitely the perfect refreshing drink for a hot mid-day.
We ordered two sides to share – the Mac and Cheese ($8++) and the Sauteed Mushroom and Spinach ($8++). The former was really cheesy and creamy, and rich and indulgent. Although the portion was actually sufficient for one to eat as a main, I’d advise you to share it as it can get quite jelat halfway through. I was a little bit irked by the visible blobs of oil (more like butter) inside, so perhaps they can look into how to make it more incorporated, or make it a ‘lighter’ dish.
The second side we ordered was due to our love for the two main ingredients here – mushroom and spinach. Both were well sauteed, especially the button mushrooms. This dish made us feel less guilty for indulging in such a weekend brunch!
Brunch will not be brunch without the ubiquitous Big Breakfast ($22++). Served with two fried eggs, two buttermilk pancakes, bacon, kurobuta pork sausage, sauteed baby spinach and mushrooms, this is quite a big portion for one. The pancakes were fluffy and delicious, while the bacon and pork were crispy and salty respectively. The vegetables are the same as the side that we ordered above, and on hindsight, we shouldn’t have ordered it had we read the menu description properly. But nevertheless, we can’t say no to yummy food! It may be a common dish in cafes everywhere, but this Big Breakfast is hearty and delicious.
When dining at The Chop House, how can you not have steak? The USDA Prime Grain Fed Rib Eye ($39++) is one of their top favourite. Ours was done medium rare, and it was cooked perfectly. It wasn’t that bloody, but was tender and juicy.
For those who like to start off their mornings on a sweet note, opt for the French Toast ($18++). Two slices of eggy french toast accompanied with caramelised bananas and topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I was a little disappointed that the ice cream was already melting when served to us. That aside, I like the hints of cinnamon in the toast, and although I dislike bananas, this one won me over. The toast turned soft and soggy after all the ice cream melted, but it actually tasted even better after that!
Every meal needs a sweet ending, right? The Apple Strudel Tortillas ($8++) was a unique dessert – tortillas stuffed with warm, soft apples, served with vanilla ice cream and in a pool of creme anglaise. I thought the tortillas aren’t like the usual tortillas, because this was a bit too thick and tasted a bit like puff pastry. Nevertheless, the apple fillings were very tasty, soft enough and mixed with some raisins too.
Alternatively, you can’t go wrong with the Hot Chocolate Brownies ($7++). The two squares of brownies were very, extremely fudgy and chocolatey, and simply a match made in heaven with the vanilla ice cream (though it’s the third dish we had with ice cream)!
This new weekend brunch menu offers a wide range of food, and is bound to please the whole family or everyone in your group. Opt for the free-flow wines for some unlimited bubbly to start your day!
