NESUTO: New Japanese-French inspired Patisserie-Cafe in Tanjong Pagar

The new cozy patisserie-cafe NESUTO at Tras Street doesn’t try to do anything outlandish. Instead it reproduces Japanese-inspired French desserts with quality and at fair prices.

The patisserie name NESUTO is inspired by Nest in Japanese and its sister outlet Koki Tamagoyaki at the basement of Raffles City Shopping Centre.

Japanese-style French cakes are its main draw, though other delights include plated desserts like duo Creme Brulee and Chocolate Fondant (will be launched at the end of May).


Pairing tea with desserts is an adventure with different flavours. NESUTO works with ANTEA SOCIAL, a local speciality tea purveyor that focuses on oriental teas predominately sourced from Taiwan and Japan.

ANTEA SOCIAL‘s range of teas selection are generally lighter – pairs perfectly well with NESUTO‘s desserts as the flavours doesn’t overwhelm one another. Oolong teas are my preferred choice for luscious chocolate treats, while black and green teas may go better less decadent options (Antea Social teas at $9/pot serves approx. two cups).


Japanese-inspired French cakes never go out of style. Indulge in the decadent Noisette Rocher ($10.50) composed of praline mousse, 70% guanaja ganache, caramelised hazelnut feuilletine and almond dacquoise; or the ‘French Crepe’ Suzette ($9.80) but in a cake form made with 32% Dulce cremeux, 35% Ivoire grand marnier mousse, orange caramel and santiago tart.

The above two entremets (multi-layered mousse-based cakes) are rich and more complex in flavours, recommend to pair it with Oriental Red and Dong Ding Oolong teas respectively.

Other sweet treats include fluffy and buttery homemade Madeleines; and sliced cakes in flavours such as Matcha Azuki (‘LE OMM’ – $9); Black Sesame Swirl (LE GOMA – $9); Cheesecake (C3 Cheesecake – $9); Chocolate (LE MMM – $9) and Yuzu Raspberry ($9).

The cakes at NESUTO are served by the slices at $9 each, while Entremets range from $9 to $10.50.

NESUTO‘s line of Japanese-inspired French cakes and entremets are also available for takeaways and pre-orders in whole 16cm and 20cm sizes.
