Oxwell & Co.

Address 5 Ann Siang Rd, Singapore 069688

Tel: +65 6438 3984

Every year for Christmas, this quintessentially English gastro-bar Oxwell & Co. serves up a seasonal festive menu that features English classics with an Asian twist. I’m talking appetizers like a Smoked Salmon Gravlax, Smocked Bacon & Toast or the Turkey and Pigs Cheek Terrine. As for main courses, the restaurant boasts an interesting take on turkey with its Turkey Roast with Chestnut Stuffing enclosed in a slice of bacon and topped with some curry-infused gravy. Other equally festive options include a Roast Fillet of Beef with Brown Butter and Stuffed Belly of Dingley Dell Pork.

Last but not least, for desserts, sweeten your meal up with some boozy Sticky Toffee Pudding and Mince Pie with Brandy Creme Anglaise. To top it all off, I promise the Winter’s Cup – a concoction of Pimm’s, rum, lemonade, fruits and a touch of spices – will make sure you’ll be having a warm and giggly Christmas!

As you would expect, there’s no lack of Christmas spirit in MBS, and Italian-Japanese restaurant Caffe B has also launched its 5-course Christmas Menu. At $148++, you’ll start off with a Duck Liver Terrine Crocante, followed by one of my favourites of the meal – the Sakura Denbu Risotto plated like a maki roll.

Other items include a fresh Poached Lemon Sole & True Cream and a Duo of Lamb Loin.  Finally, the dessert – White Forest Verrine Style – was another well-received item, balancing a sour cherry compote with matcha Chantilly.

For a more casual setting, the bar on Level 1 will also be serving up a Christmas Bar Menu at $68++ for 2 pax, which will include a Smoked Salmon and Tomato Salsa (another one of my favourites), Roasted Young Tom Turkey Breast & Roasted Striploin of Beef and finally a Vanilla Gelato Casatta infused with Brandy, bringing your meal to a sweet and festive end

Other items that are on the year-round menu include some creative appetizers, like the Fried Soft Shell Crab with Chili Crab Sauce ($20++), Papadum with Foie Gras and Mango Chutney ($26++) and Portobello Mushrooms stuffed with Crabmeat and Prawn topped with Gorgonzola sauce and Flying Fish Roe ($28++), the latter being my favorite item of the meal! For you carb lovers, you can also opt for the Homemade Lobster Ravioli in Light Butter Sage sauce and Black Truffle ($38++) for a warm, hearty meal.

This Christmas, Old Seng Choong introduces its first log cake to yule them all! Technically speaking, it’s not a log cake but a Christmas stump cake.

Resembling a tree stump, expect to see chocolate devil sponge cake and hazelnut buttercream layers with a middle tier of traditional rum ball cake. The richness of the buttercream is perfectly complemented by the heady nuances of Myers’s Rum.

The exterior of the cake is covered with chocolate buttercream and the top of the stump features a green, leafy vine and cutesy figurines of Santa and reindeer.

This eye-catching Christmas bake is a must-have on the table centre this year!
