Not far from Tiong Bahru hipster rendezvous, a hot new rooftop restaurant UPPER PLACE dishes out modern European cuisine with Asian influences, courtesy of Chef Gregory Lau boasting over 16 years of culinary experiences in high profile restaurants like Joël Robuchon Singapore, and luxurious hotels such as St Regis Singapore and Ritz Carlton Singapore.
UPPER PLACE sits on the rooftop of the refined WANGZ Hotel at 231 Outram Road, just minutes away from the well-connected Outram Park MRT station. You will find indoor and al fresco seating, both of which benefit from the mesmerising cityscape. The elegant setting and impeccable service add to the restaurant’s charm, making UPPER PLACE the perfect destination for a business lunch, afterwork drinks or intimate gatherings.
UPPER PLACE serves gastronomic dishes at unprecedentedly low prices. The menu offers a list of playful small plates inspired by European cuisine with influences from Asian regions.
Try the appetising Yellow Fin Tuna Tartare Tart ($14) and Thai-inspired Slow Cooked Pork Belly Tacos ($10) for starters, followed by a superbly comforting Short Ribs Congee with Veal Sweetbreads ($17) or Reconstructed Laksa Risotto ($27) for the main course.
For something unique yet familiar, try the Asian-style Lobster Kueh Pie Tee ($10). Chef Gregory upped the ante with his take on the traditional Peranakan favourite, by filling the thin and crispy pastry tart shell with Boston lobster meat, tomato chipotles and mango espuma.
Finally, end off your meal with desserts like the unconventional Carrot Cake with chai poh ($8), Chocolate Lava Cake ($12), or a trio of my favourite dessert ingredients – Matcha Parfait ($8) layered with red beans and black sesame coulis. A splash of olive oil and the Vietnamese paper tuile help to balance out the sweetness.
Set lunch goes at only $19.90++ for 2-course and $24++ for 3-course. Dinner tasting menu of 4-course is priced affordably at $42++ and 5-course at $50++.
