Brunch

20F Specialty Coffeehouse [CLOSED]

Every Instagrammer at 20F Speciality Coffeehouse has a smile on their face, perhaps because they could take stunning photographs of the interiors and coffee while they wait for their food. Well, I have to admit I am guilty of this too.

20F Speciality Coffeehouse is the newest cafe addition to the Jalan Besar neighborhood, occupying a two-storey shophouse that was formerly a Chinese medicinal hall. I was rather impressed with the space and ambience of the cafe – keeping things old school with its worn floor tiles, wrought window grilles, sunroof backyard and unpretentious furniture. The food-coffee balance also prevails at this new promising venture.

Duck And Waffle ($22)

20F Speciality Coffeehouse serves brunch and coffee by day, and fires up more on the grill work and cocktails by night. The casual daytime identity has all your breakfast to brunch bases covered, but expect some fresh and deftly cooked dishes which are presently all the rage at this new cafe.

The Duck Waffle is a standout among all – showcasing an indulgent duck confit paired with buttermilk waffle, strawberry compote and mixed berries sorbet. Sounds like a bizarre combination but this sweet and savoury pairing is one of the most striking good dishes I had.

Orange Cinnamon French Toast ($15)

If you are a big fan of french toast, you probably would fall in love with this dangerously delicious orange-infused cinnamon french toast, served with bacon, mixed berries, mascarpone and crushed pistachio.

The orange zest is a very nice addition to the straightforward cinnamon flavour in the brioche. To make it just right, I suggest cooking the bread longer until both sides are more golden and puffy.

Pulled Pork Benedict ($18)

Eggs Benedict remains as a brunch favourite on the menu. The 20F breakfast starts with a pair of runny eggs sitting on tender fall apart pulled pork and rocket on brioche, then richly dressed with creamy chipotle hollandaise.

For those who wants a heartier meal, try the Ribeye Burger ($24), Rosemary Chicken ($20), Prawn & Poached Egg Pasta ($17) and Pork & Vine Tomato Linguine ($16) – available at brunch from 11am, and also served at dinner after 5pm.

20F Speciality Coffeehouse is embracing the cult of espresso beans from Liberty Coffee. Gotta say that coffee was pretty good, but they have some interesting beverages like Chocolate & Coconut Milkshake ($7.50) , Earl Grey & Fig Vanilla Milkshake ($7.50), Fresh Coconut Lychee Milkshake ($7.50) will be on my list to try next time.
