Monochrome Fusion Bistro – A Black and White Bistro-Cafe at Chinatown [CLOSED]

Monochrome Fusion Bistro or MonoBistro in short, is tucked away in a serene location where one can spend lazy afternoons over brunches or casual dates over dinners. The ambience of this 49-seater bistro-cafe is both contemporary and aesthetically pleasing, featuring a number of monochromatic art pieces done by designer and co-founder Ivan Seow.

Even the dining wares and furnitures were showcased in a single hue of colours – mainly black and white, conjuring a sleek an sexy feel. Adding to this is a warm welcoming and convivial atmosphere helped by the warm and friendly service.

The black and white theme also symbolises the Yin & Yang essence of the business, hence striking a balance of the Western and Asian influences which can be found in the fusion dishes at MonoBistro.

The classic bistro features a delectable menu of starters and sides, pastas, pizzas, mains and desserts. Signature dishes include The Bonding ($16) – a trio of deep fried mid-wings coated with honey oat, chilli crab and homemade thai chilli sauce; Squid Ink Risotto ($24) – creamy risotto with crunchy quinoa, parmesan cheese, edamame beans and topped with pan-seared scallops and alfalfa sprouts.

Pasta lovers can try the Chilli Crab Linguine ($22) stir-fried with crab meat and chilli crab sauce, served with crispy fried soft shell crab. This pasta dish is one of the best sellers at MonoBistro.

Desserts are quintessentially cakes and pastries on display like Chendol Cake ($8) and Black Velvet Cake ($8). For something more unusual, try the Monochrome Churroffles ($12) which is a cheeky twist to the waffle – iron pressed churro waffle batter served with biscuit crumbs, banana slices, cinnamon sugar and artisanal ice cream. The Sticky Date Pudding ($11) and Peppermint Potted Pudding ($7) are also popular choices for desserts.
