Let’s Makan Food Trail by Food Republic

Discover a journey of local heritage and culinary delights with Food Republic, celebrating the nation’s 50th birthday through a showcase of eating, playing games and walk home with a happy & satisfied tummy.

At the invitation of Food Republic, I joined a group of like-minded food lovers and friends at the “Let’s Makan Food Trail” organised by Food Republic at the Wisma Atria outlet. The trail started with a brief commentary about the food court, and then we sampled a multitude of homegrown favourites such as Huat Huat BBQ Chicken Wings, Thye Hong Hokkien Prawn Noodles, Capitol Puay Heng Bak Chor Mee, Guan Chee Hongkong Roast and more.

During the food trail, we were involved in getting both our hands and mouth busy eating while playing interactive mini games. Short quizzes and little challenges were brought to the floor, where team members can participate and win for themselves complimentary food vouchers and treats.

As we move from stall to stall, the Food Republic representative (guest emcee) explains the origins of each dish, its ingredients and inviting us to sample the freshly prepared local dishes from the various stalls in the food court.

On 29 August and 5 September 2015, friends and families from all walks of life will be able to participate in the “Let’s Makan Food Trail” for FREE! It will also be a great opportunity for you to spend bonding time with your loved ones and friends, while reacquainting yourselves with Singapore’s favourite hawker dishes that make us proud of what our nation has achieved through the SG50 milestones.

Participants of the “Let’s Makan Food Trail” can get the hands-on experience of creating dishes such as Ice Kachang. Join in the fun with your families and friends to experience a hearty epicurean adventure with the hawker stars of Food Republic. About Food Republic @ Wisma Atria

Food Republic introduced the concept of a food atrium, bringing together and offering the best of local food under one roof. The refurbished theme appeals to our customers’ nostalgic memories, balanced with an exciting and eclectic showcase of creative displays and food mix. The newly made-over facility has a great mix of old favourites and new stalls.

The nearly 26,000 square foot eatery revamp project was completed under the direction of BreadTalk Group Limited. The restaurant stations and 1960s-inspired kiosks curve around the perimeter of the space are accented with chengai wood individually sourced from Asia Pacific and mosaic tiles filled with Southeast Asian inspired motifs. Retro tables and chairs provide comfortable seating.

The latest refurbishment project of Food Republic at Wisma includes a new grand entrance, increased dining options, as well as nooks that feature exhibits that highlight various icons from 1960s Singapore. These include: a collection of what a typical cozy home from the era would look and feel like (complete with an analog television); traditional qipaos and resplendent traditional cotton dresses that were the rage before Western dressing styles got prevalent; vinyls bearing covers featuring famous 60’s singers the likes of Sakura, Frances Yip and Carrie Ku Mei in the 60s signature “beehive” hair-dos; and finally, parts of the ceilings adorned with disco balls heralding the in-coming of the hippies 70’s. Soaking in the sights and feel of what Singapore was like in the 1960s while getting a sneak peak at how the delicacies they have ordered are being prepared.
